If you’re lucky enough to have a dishwasher, it’s very tempting to just pop everything in and hope for the best. Especially after a sticky baking session, entertaining friends, or a delicious big meal.
When it comes to KitchenAid attachments and accessories, the good news is that most of them can happily go in the dishwasher. But, just like everything else you use in your kitchen, there are some exceptions.
This useful guide will help you work out which parts of your stand mixer are dishwasher safe, and which should be washed by hand.
Are KitchenAid attachments and bowls dishwasher safe?
Firstly, what does ‘dishwasher safe’ actually mean?
Amazingly, there’s no single universally-agreed definition of ‘dishwasher safe’. But, it generally means the item can withstand high heat, wash sprays and dishwasher detergent without causing any damage. You may have also noticed that some items say ‘top rack only’. That’s because the heating element in dishwashers is usually at the bottom of the machine, so the top rack is a bit cooler and a bit ‘safer’.
While we’d always advise checking the product manual to work out which parts of your stand mixer are definitely dishwasher safe, here’s some general guidelines.
Oh, and a quick – but very important – reminder to never, ever put the mixer itself, or any other electrical appliance, in the dishwasher, or in soapy water. A quick wipe with a damp soft cloth over the mixer body and the beater shaft is all you need.
Make as much mess as you like and then pop them in the dishwasher ready for next time. Good news, right?

Are KitchenAid beater accessories dishwasher safe?
KitchenAid stand mixer accessories are the whisks, dough hooks, paddles, flex-edge beaters and pastry beaters, which you put on the shaft for different tasks. They come in different materials, best suited to the job in hand. But the majority are made of stainless steel and coated stainless steel, both of which are totally dishwasher safe, in the top rack. Our pouring shields are also absolutely fine for the dishwasher.
Any beaters made of aluminium, or with aluminium parts, like some of our wire whisks for example, need to be washed by hand. With these, just give them a once over in hot, soapy water and dry straight away to prevent oxidation.
But, if you do accidentally put one in the dishwasher, don’t panic! The whitish residue caused by oxidation isn’t harmful and can usually be removed by hand washing with a nylon scrubber. If that doesn’t work, then you can use a specialist product, that’s designed specifically to clean oxidation.
Which KitchenAid stand mixer attachments are dishwasher safe?
We have a whole world of KitchenAid stand mixer attachments, for all sorts of tasks. Attachments simply click into your mixer’s hub to transform it into anything from a food processor to a meat grinder to a pasta maker.
