Which grinder setting should I use?

The integrated conical burr grinder in the KitchenAid Semi automatic espresso machine gives you uniform size grounds to 15 different grind sizes — from coarse to fine.

The coffee grind size determines the speed at which extraction happens which, in turn, affects the texture, aroma and taste of your espresso.

You can adjust the fineness of the grind size using the lever under the grinder knob, moving it from left (coarse) to right (fine).

We recommend starting with a medium grind size, then adjusting it for the type of beans you use and to your personal taste.

Hint: if the coffee shot is watery and acidic, it's under-extracted and the water has passed through too quickly. Try using a finer grind setting or firmer tamp, and keep tweaking until it's just right for you.
