How to blend the perfect smoothie
There’s more to making smoothies than just blending up some fruits and veg together. A great smoothie balances both flavours and textures, as well nutrients. With these five tips, and a little help from your KitchenAid Blender, you’ll be whipping up a delicious smoothie in no time.
1. Choose your base - Your smoothie needs a liquid base. Otherwise, you’ll end up with thick, chunky goo. Think water, milk, milk alternative, coconut water, or yoghurt.
2. Add fruit and vegetables - Fresh or frozen? Either will work. Some of our favourite smoothie fruits are berries, bananas, mangoes, and pineapples. Want an extra nutritional boost? Sneak in some greens too. Look for vegetables that don’t overpower the taste of your fruit – like spinach, kale, avocado or cucumber. Play around with different flavour combinations and discover your favourites. Smoothies are nothing if not highly customisable.
3. Give it some oomph. - Need an extra boost? Proteins like nuts or nut butters, or superfoods like spirulina, chia seeds or flax seeds can give your smoothie that little bit of extra power you need in the morning or after a workout.
4. Sweeten it naturally - If you like your smoothies a little bit sweeter, try going natural. Just add a drizzle of honey, agave, or maple syrup or throw in a few dates.
5. Let your blender finish the job - Smooth and creamy. Not too thick, not too thin. That’s the consistency you’re after. So be sure to blend the ingredients at a high speed. If you have a K400 blender, switch it to the special Smoothie setting and you’re good to go.
